Achievements My latest achievement has been winning the Miss York crown this year, when I was also awarded the title of Miss Photogenic. I have 11 GCSE’s grades A and B and 5 A levels in English literature, Classical civilization, Philosophy, Theatre studies and General studies, all at B grade. This enabled me to go to my first choice university to do Classics, a subject I am passionate about. I have my advanced PADI scuba diving qualification, which was a major achievement of mine. I am hoping to do my PADI underwater rescue diver qualification this summer. This year I founded the Classical Theatre Company at University, which aims to promote Greek Theatre, I am very pleased with the response it has got, both from classicists and from other subject areas. We will stage our first performance next term. Classical theatre is something I am passionate about, so to be able to introduce this to others is an amazing opportunity. I have raised a lot of money for charities, both local and national, such as Guardian Angels and Multiple Sclerosis. I enjoy helping people and hope to have a lot more opportunities to raise money in the coming year.
Talents I love outdoor activities such as scuba diving, rock climbing and caving. I was a presenter on York TV for a year which taught me to think on my feet and keep calm under pressure. I have been acting and performing since I was 3, taking part in professional and amateur performances, my favourite part was that of the White Witch in ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. I co-directed and produced as well as acted in my A level drama piece, which I found challenging but enjoyable. I am a member of two theatre companies at university I love singing, although I have never done it professionally, I have taken part in shows and concerts at school and college. Writing is another passion of mine, I love writing short stories and poems as find it useful as a way of expressing myself. I can speak conversational French and a bit of Italian and hope to improve these as I think it is important for foreign relations in today’s world. I can also translate Latin to an A level standard.
Ambitions I aim to finish my degree with a first, before going on to do a post-graduate degree in journalism to gain my NCTJ and proceed to be a broadcasting journalist. This would give me opportunities to travel, whilst reporting on current affairs. I have visited some amazing places, however I would like to experience different cultures and see life from other perspectives. Another ambition of mine is to further my modeling career. Winning the Miss York competition gives me the opportunity to be an ambassador for those I represent. This has opened up so many avenues for me and will hopefully enable me to achieve many of my ambitions. The most important thing for me in life is to be happy, do the best that I can and try to make a difference in the world, no matter how small or great that might be.
