Miss England 2006 Finalists
MORECAMBE - Laura Ann Johnson

Achievements

My biggest achievement so far is winning the title ‘Miss Morecambe 2006’. I am delighted to represent my hometown in the Miss England Final and can’t wait to indulge in the great experience ahead of me! I am current an Upper 6th  Student at Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School. I have 11 GCSEs Grades A-B and have taken 4 AS exams in ICT, Media, Theatre and Product Design. I am continuing my A Level studies in ICT, Media and Theatre. At school, I have been elected for roles as Dance Captain, Deputy House Captain and I mentor lower school students on issues such as bullying and self-esteem. I like to take an active role in fundraising events for charity and have organised dancing events, which have raised a substantial amount of money for our partner school, Akany Avoko in Madagascar. For the boys and girls’ grammar school musicals, I appeared on stage as Francesca in ‘West Side Story’ and backstage as Production Assistant for ‘The ThreePenny Opera’. I have completed over 100 hours of Millennium Volunteer work at 2 local primary schools. I have gained dance qualifications in BBO, ISTD and RAD: up to BBO Intermediate Grade 7 Modern, receiving 96/100 - Distinction for my Grade 6 exam and up to BBO Grade 5 Ballet-Merit. I have won Gold, Silver and Bronze medal at the stage dance festivals. Twain Productions, including famous dancers/choreographers Gerry Zuccarello and Fiona Chadwick, awarded me a summer school scholarship. I was chosen out of over 100 girls and boys to be in the band ‘Triumph’, based in Morecambe. This band was formed to support the charity ‘Bullywatch’ and we raised money by performing on ‘The Bay’ and at various venues such as Pontins, The Dome and Beaumont College for the learning disabled. I have sung with an ABBA tribute band ‘Voulez Vouz’. I got through to the 2nd round of X Factor.

Ambitions

I have many ambitions because I am curious about a range of different things in life.

My dream ambition is to become a professional singer/model for which I have both the dedication and passion to achieve my dream! When I leave school, I want to go to University to study Media but I am considering taking a gap year before University. I feel a gap year will benefit me because I will become a special constable in this year, a volunteer for the Police Force. I want to become a special constable to help the community and I am interested in working with young offenders. This is the area I will focus on if I go into the Police Force. As well as this, I want to complete my dancing exams, which will allow me to pursue a Dance Teaching Qualification. Once I have this qualification I have the opportunity to open my own dance school in the future.
